With enough states getting their election results in by the morning of Wednesday, November 6, to make it look like and safe to assuredly say former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is now the President-Elect, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” came on air in what looked like funeral garb to melt down about it.
Particularly, in the show that media-focused and left-leaning news outlet Mediaite described by writing, “Morning Joe Grapples With Trump Victory in Funereal Show Open,” the show’s hosts tried to come to terms with the magnitude and sweeping nature of Trump’s victory.
Doing so, “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough described the outcome as “stunning” and said, “I’ve got to say, this is the biggest red wave I’ve seen since Ronald Reagan’s 49 state victory in 1984.
Continuing, he argued that America is farther to the right side of the political spectrum than it has been in generations, saying, “America, first of all, is far more to the Right than any time in our lifetimes. Even going back to the Reagan years. And Donald Trump won in dominating fashion.”
Scarborough also noted that Trump did well enough to drag other Republicans across the finish line with him, giving him the power to dominate government for a few years. He said, “But he did that along with other Republican candidates in the Senate races and the House races. They’re likely to dominate all branches of government for the next several years.”
Still Scarborough sputtered on, admitting that the Democratic Party was utterly obliterated by American voters, who delivered a GOP victory on a sweeping scale. He said, “The scope and scale of this victory is sweeping…This is a Democratic Party that has been just wiped out this morning.”
Bemoaning the results and attacking Trump, Jonathan Lemire said, “He was impeached twice. He botched the handling of the pandemic. He faced four criminal cases. He inspired January 6th. And he won anyway. And now he will return to office with few guardrails internally. Encouragement from Moscow and other foreign adversaries. And a Supreme Court that has said that his power is largely unchecked.”
